CHRIS HEDGES traces the rise of the Corporate State, the destruction of democracy, the corporate plunder of society. And he surveys successful examples of nonviolent popular rebellion.

This week he discusses the Obama Administration's assault on civil liberties--a way of suppressing both dissent and popular resistance to corporate plunder. He ends with examples of nonviolent popular resistance toppling oppressive systems--in East Germany and Czechoslovakia.
Hedges gave this classic speech in Seattle on June 29, 2011. His 2011 book is titled, "Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt" (with illustrations by Joe Sacco).

Original audio--slightly condensed by KD--courtesy of Mike McCormick, "Mind Over Matters." Many thanks to Mike.

Hedges speech was broadcast on New World Notes in September 2012 (#236-237). Files downloaded from the links, below, may be identified as #237.

"New World Notes" is produced under the auspices (Latin for "radar") of WWUH-FM, a community service of that beacon of light in darkest Connecticut, the University of Hartford.
