Despite the departure of Hosni Mubarak 11 months ago, the regime he ruled is still for the most part in place. Political power remains in the hands of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. Yet labour and social forces opposing the government are still strong. To find out more about these forces in Egyptian society. we contacted Joel Beinin, professor of history and Middle Eastern history at Stanford University.
