Your support is essential if the service is to continue, there are bandwidth bills to pay every month and failing disk drives to replace. Volunteers do the work, but disk drives and bandwidth are not free. We encourage you to contribute financially, even a dollar helps. Click here to donate.

Reading: Vikki Law “Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women, 2nd Edition”

Featuring Tina Reynolds, Mercedes Smith, and Laura Whitehorn

With updated facts and even more stories of organizing and resistance both in and beyond women’s prisons, the new edition of “Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women” is here! Laura Whitehorn, Tina Reynolds and Mercedes Smith have shared their personal stories of organizing and resistance both in and beyond their prison sentences for the second edition. They will join author Victoria Law in sharing their stories and successes as we celebrate the release of the new edition. Vikki Law is a co-founder of Books Through Bar–NYC, a long-time volunteer at ABC No Rio and a proud member of WORTH’s Sister Circle. She is also the author of the zine “Tenacious: Art & Writings from Women in Prison.” Tina Reynolds is the co-founder and co-chair of WORTH (Women on the Rise Telling HerStory), a NYC-based organization of formerly and currently incarcerated women, and a co-editor of “Interrupted Life: Experiences of Incarcerated Women in the United States.” Mercedes Smith is the policy specialist for WORTH, a mother, and a formerly incarcerated woman. Laura Whitehorn is a former political prisoner and the editor of Safiya Bukhari’s “The War Before: The True Life Story of Becoming a Black Panther, Keeping the Faith in Prison, and Fighting for Those Left Behind.”
