Joan Baxter is a Canadian journalist, development researcher, anthropologist, and award-winning author. She divides her time between Canada and Africa. She authored, "Dust from Our Eyes: An Unblinkered Look at Africa," which contains a chapter on Thomas Sankara.

Joan Baxter takes the listener back to the future --to the time of Thomas Sankara's 1983 revolutionary victory and to his assassination in October of 2014, and subsequently to the present massive revolt against President Blaise Compaore, who fled into the protective arms of his friends and relatives in Cote d'Ivoire.

Joan Baxter described Thomas Sankara as an anti-imperialist who promoted an economic policy based on producing and consuming locally, securing the country's natural resources and creating equality (including women). He captured the imagination, strength and respect of his People. His revolution represented the colonizing powers' worst nightmare--a "Cuba" in Africa.
