In “Breathing Race into the Machine,” Lundy Braun, shows how human life is conditioned and determined by this system. Her book traces the history of the Spirometer, an instrument used in diagnosing lung disorders, how it has been modified from the beginning until today to “prove” Black people are lesser human beings. Ana Lily Amirpour, talks about her feature film debut, “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night,” which she describes as an Iranian Vampire Spaghetti Western. It s a film unlike any other.
