On this week's Global Research News Hour, we take a look at the role of Publicly owned banks such as the Bank of Canada as a mechanism by which critical infrastructure, health care and vital public works projects can be financed.

Our first guest is Herb Wiseman, Information Officer for the Canada-based Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform (COMER). In this exclusive interview, Mr. Wiseman explains how the nationalization of Canada's Central Bank and its role as the government's lender of choice were key to the country's prosperity in the post-war years. He also talks about the impacts of the government abandoning its use of the BOC and about the unique lawsuit launched by his group to restore it to its previous role.

In the second half hour, Berkeley-based contributor Kellia Ramares-Watson takes the conversation even further through an in-depth discussion with Ellen Hodgson Brown, broadcaster, founder of the Public Banking Institute, and author of 'Web Of Debt: The Shocking Truth about our Money System and How we can Break Free', and her more recent 'From Austerity to Prosperity: The Public Bank Solution.'
