In receiving the award she speaks of the collective power of women in defending the needs of their children and the children's school and relates an event at her own school.

Parents and teachers faced down with determined direct action the Chicago Board of Education, forcing it to rescind its dictatorial order that a high school be opened in the building that housed their grammar school.

She invites the assembled to participate in the April 1 Day of Action to shut down the city. Chicago's business elite have emboldened the Mayor and Governor to run amok to the detriment of school children, parents and public workers in expectation of destroying the unions and privatizing the schools.
Sponsored by Committee to Stop FBI Repression, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, the U.S. Palestinian Community Network, the American Party of Labor, Anakbayan, the Chicago Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression, the Anti-War Committee, and Workers World Party.

Sarah Chambers is a Special Education teacher at Saucedo Academy and a member of the Executive Board of the Chicago Teachers Union.
