The British elites have clashed over how to maintain a hegemonic status vis a vis Europe. The elements around Boris entertain hopes of better terms with Germany and France but are unlikely to get them. The US is interested because it uses Britain as a proxy for its aggressive policies in Europe. One early benefit of Brexit may be a slowing of the US led drive to provoke Russia.
