This week's feature presentation is the keynote address that Israeli historian and author, Ilan Pappe gave to the Palestinian support organization, the Middle East Childrenâs Alliance (MECA) in Berkeley, California. MECA is an amazing organization that does critical work all through the West Bank and Gaza in support of meeting the needs of children who live under occupation.
"Settler colonialism" is a term that arguably applies not only to Israel's current campaign to take over the most desirable land in the West Bank, piece by piece, but also to Israel's original invasion and destructive occupation of Palestine. As Pappe notes, this is not a new phenomenon. We've seen it in South Africa, not to mention the United States of America.
Before this, our host reads the full text of an extensive article by Gideon Levy in Haaretz, helps lay to rest the myth of a two-state solution. It begins:
"âA delusion under which most Israelis live lets them invent vacuous excuses based on the virtual reality theyâve built for themselves. According to this fallacy, the State of Israel only controls its own citizens, most of them Jewish of course, but nobody counts the millions of other subjects who fall under its control at least as much, maybe more. Theyâre invisible."
This Week In Palestine (a weekly part of Truth and Justice Radio) is an award-winning three-quarter-hour segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them. It's a regular part of Truth and Justice Radio, aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, streaming and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine archives back thru 1-6-2008; editions are also accessible at radio4all.net or by navigating through our playlists.
