A new generation in 1960s and 1970s West Germany rejected the post-War order and its tainted history. A group of innovative bands created their own brand of avant-garde music free from the cliches of American and British rock. Labelled âKrautrockâ by the sarcastic British music press, this disparate group includes Germany's most innovative bands: Can, Faust, Cluster, Amon Duul, Kraftwerk, and Harmonium.
