Program to welcome home people convicted and imprisoned - some sentenced to death - as a result of the systemic use of torture by the Chicago Police Department to obtain confessions.
Torture and framing of Black and Latino youth by corrupt, criminal cops took place over a 40 year period and still continues, tainting the entire department as perpetrators are protected by the Fraternal Order of the Police, and a code of silence rarely broken. Chicago's merchant and money elites prop up the majority of alderman who have failed their oath of office by continuing to protect the existing order where corrupt cops operate with impunity and cops that obtain confessions with torture are kept on the force.
This program celebrates 45 years of Unity, Organization and Struggle in the fight for justice, human rights and an end to the impunity that has existed under the corrupt political power structure that Chicago suffers..
Survivors of police torture, cultural performers, a little history on how the United Nations was brought to bare when the racist Mayor and States Attorney refused to prosecute criminal cops , and an acknowledgement of the unique women, the founding members of the Alliance, precede the key note by Angela Davis.
