Buffalo, NY is about a 6 & 1/2 hour drive from NYC and Occupy Wall Street. A working-class, blue-collar city, Buffalo has been economically depressed for decades. The occupy movement here (unlike many other cities) has, so far, remained supported by the police and city officials, and the occupiers will legally be allowed to camp in front of City Hall throughout the winter--a big achievement! If there's no occupy in your area, do not despair. You don't need to join any occupy movement or follow anyone else's path. Just occupy yourself! Be yourself and think for yourself! Fact check everything you hear. Read up on US history--particularly the Great Depression of the 1930s. Read about Germany (aka, the Weimar Republic) before Hitler took control. Think carefully and deeply before deciding what to believe in, don't just trust your "heroes" or "experts," try not to get too attached to your own personal beliefs, stay open to new ideas, and don't be afraid to express your opinions--they're just as valid as anyone else's. Will democracy ever come to the USA? Perhaps not. But we will keep working toward that goal, elusive as it may be.
