Niswander (pronounced nice-wander) is a multi-media artist and true innovator. He is a singer, songwriter, keyboardist, actor, entertainer, published writer, comedian, music and video producer, an entrepreneur, and a storyteller. He has even been president of a non-profit, a media ambassador, worked as an Internet reporter in a Hollywood press corps, is an occasional blogger, and an activist. He has Swiss ancestry, but doesn't play the accordion…yet. Niswander began singing at the age of 5 and playing the piano by the age of 10. His two albums of original music include the catchy pop, rock and funk songs "Fun (To the Nth Degree)," "Read A Book," "Hats," "Everyone," "Mojo," “Chameleon,” "Funky Space," “Compassion,” “Out of Order,” and "Surfin' With Jesus," some which have received radio airplay. He has recorded with a wide array of musicians that have played with and/or also produced artists as diverse as John Mellencamp, Transmatic, Jurassic 5, Supergrass, the Dandy Warhols, and Sandi Patti. The first professional gig as a composer landed him soundtrack credits in an infomercial in Hollywood and his music has also been featured in a promotional film that he also co-produced. As a musician and entertainer, he has performed in and hosted thousands of shows in the Midwest to California from the 80's up to the present at venues including the House of Blues on Sunset, Verizon Wireless Music Center, The Salt Palace, Birdy’s Live, Radio Radio, Jewel’s Catch One, and Al’s Bar. When talking about live shows, Nuvo's Steve Hammer compared his energy on stage to Mick Jagger and Iggy Pop. He has appeared in shows and festivals that also featured and even been on the same stage the same night as recording artists such as Prince and New Power Generation, Blondie, Los Lobos, the Roots, Our Lady Peace, Sugar Ray, Bob Log III, Drums and Tuba, and the Gluey Brothers. From 2001 to 2004, he also produced a popular local live monthly variety show in Indianapolis, Indiana. As an actor, he has created approximately a dozen ‘Rock Theater’ characters that have been featured in audio recordings, video productions, and numerous live shows, and has appeared in films such as the award winning independent film ‘Saving Star Wars’ and a webisode with Jason Alexander (“Seinfeld”) as seen on funnyordie.com. His extensive print coverage includes being named Best Showman in Nuvo Newsweekly (2001) and has also appeared on the front page of the Indianapolis Star newspaper. His music has been featured on commercial radio stations in Indianapolis as well as online stations such as Radio Marabu, The Chris and Tom Show, and Burning Man Internet Radio. He and his band have performed live on the Indianapolis Fox Network affiliate station during their Morning Show. He has conducted and gathered interviews with a diversity of people including Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Mickey Rooney, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Buddy Ebsen, solo artist and Tupak Shakur producer Moe Z, original Saturday Night Live writer Vincent Di Piero, artist Graydon Parrish, author and lecturer Charles Eisenstein, singer/songwriter Jon McLaughlin, film director Karney Hatch, art model Jennifer Fabos Patton, original Occupy Wall Street organizer David DeGraw, and Los Angeles New Urbanism Film Festival creators Josh Paget and Joel Karahadian. He produced an interview on Internet radio with film, television and stage actress Cindy Williams. He has been interviewed on local Fox and CBS television affiliates and also guest hosted a top ten count down show on WKLU-FM in Indianapolis. Now again based out of Southern California, he has produced music videos, video shorts and webisodes featuring his music and characters on the Niswander Channel and more on sites such as You Tube, Vimeo, and Facebook. As a writer, his articles have been featured in publications such as Nuvo Newsweekly and an international newsletter called “The Deminer” originating from Adopt-A-Minefield. In 2013, he self-published his first book entitled “The Universe According To NOWMAN” which is based on his character NOWMAN. His blog nowmanrightnow on Wordpress features articles on subjects ranging from autobiographical stories and entertainment to sustainability and economics. He helped create an online media network with activist friends in Venice, California and also specializes in outreach with community radio and networking throughout the L.A. area.
