Classic Parenti from 1993. Americans are trained to dismiss claims of concerted wrongdoing by elites as "conspiracy theories." Parenti argues that conspiracies are real and common--one tool among many that the powerful use to advance their personal and class interests.
In Part 1 he discusses several claims first dismissed as "conspiracy theories" and now accepted as historical fact--for instance the Gulf of Tonkin fabrication and the FBI infiltration of civil-rights and antiwar organizations.
