This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Deutsche-Welle. From CHINA- Recovery efforts continue in Northwestern China which was hit by a serious earthquake last week. A report on the BRIC summit (Brazil, Russia, India and China) held last week. Two reports from Thailand on the standoff between government forces and the red-shirts. From NETHERLANDS- Radio Netherlands has eliminated shortwave broadcasts to North America. The decision is based on their surveys that find very few listeners in N America. Polly Higgins is an environmental campaigner who wants the United Nations to recognize environmental destruction as ecocide, and to prosecute it like genocide. German anti-nuclear activists will demonstrate this weekend to force the government to carry on with the closure of all nuclear power plants by 2020. From CUBA- Iran held a conference on disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation, calling on the world to abandon nuclear weapons. Lebanon wants to United Nations to pressure Israel to get rid of nuclear weapons and comply with international treaties on disarmament. A Viewpoint on the Climate Change Conference being held in Bolivia as an alternative to the Copenhagen meeting. From RUSSIA- Russia is willing to sign a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, but insists that the US abandon its plans to install anti-ballistic missiles on the Russian borders.
