On Sunday November 21, Professor Noam Chomsky visited Toronto to speak in support of Canadian Dimension, of one Canada's oldest progressive periodicals. His sold-out talk at the University of Toronto addressed 'the Imperial Presidency.'

The first part of this presentation opens with his assertion that the scale of dissent and protest in Europe and North America, the perpetrators of genocidal war for the past 500 years, has never been higher.

He goes on to descibe how the self-identified legal theorists in the Bush administration, and in particular these days, Alberto R. Gonzales, Bush's nominee for the post of Attorney-General, are crafting ever-expanding doctrines to immunize the US elite from charges of war crimes.

In the second half, Professor Chomsky analyzes the significance of the recent US elections. He concludes by encouraging us all in the heart of the empire to resist our imperial masters, and to remember that our resistance can change history.
