Before dawn on 23 November 2016 around 25 men dressed in black with masked faces, turned up equipped with sledgehammers, crowbars and dogs at a squat in a commercial building in Barton Hill, Bristol. They broke in through a window and two doors and once inside ordered the six petrified Spanish residents to âget on the floorâ. Eventually, the squatters were ordered to leave the premises with their hands up in the air. When the police turned up in response to the squattersâ 999 call they spoke to the bailiffs only, before driving off.Â This was the first strike by the firm Graham Rose Consultants (GRC) who see themselves as âentrepreneursâ opening up a new market in illegal evictions. They claim to help landowners use so called âCommon Lawâ to evict gypsies and travellers trespassing on open land, and will remove squatters âwithout the need to go through a lengthy court process.â...

Two EU politicians deliver damning report on EUs 5G regulators ICNIRP â but will this report overcome the telecom lobby or be ignored? The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection: Conflicts of interest, corporate capture and the push for 5G - Two politicians, members of the European Parliament, Klaus Buchner (@Dr_KlausBuchner) and Micheile Rivasi (@MicheleRivasi) have published a report that critically analyzes the expertise and the independence of the ICNIRP â International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection: ââ¦The findings of this report (âThe International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection: Conflicts of interest and the push for 5Gâ) give us an uncomfortable dÃ©jÃ -vu: many facts and processes that lead to the actual situation whereby European authorities â from the European Commission to most of the member states â simply close their eyes for real scientific facts and early warnings. We have seen exactly the same scenario in the debate on Tobacco, asbestos, climate change and pesticidesâ¦.âÂ ââ¦That is the most important conclusion of this report: for really independent scientific advice we cannot rely on ICNIRP. The European Commission and national governments, from countries like Germany, should stop funding ICNIRP. It is high time that the European Commission creates a new, public and fully independent advisory council on non-ionizing radiation. The funds currently allocated to ICNIRP could be used to set up this new organisation. And given the overall rise in R&D funding via Horizon Europe, with a foreseen budget (for 2021-2027) of between 75 and 100 billion euros, funding should in no way constitute an insurmountable hurdle to setting up this new, truly independent, bodyâ¦â

The Single Marketâs main aim was to supply cut-price workers to capitalism.Â A capitalism with an insatiable appetite for the dozen-a-penny workers she created by stripping away employment rights, by shackling trade unions.Â The problems we wrestle with today can be traced back to her door.â...
