This is not a polished episode segment, but the information is to critical to let pass into the waste basket. Many of us have heard the word merit, but few have heard the word meritocracy. The Roman Republic was supposedly a meritocracy; it was also a den of savvy backstabbing wolves who sought to deprive their fellow compatriots just for fun, for this reason merit was earned and sometimes stolen, but it was rarely free or given without a fight. In this current political economic system, merit is held out as something gained by those who work hard for it and earn it through laboring for others or showing individual ingenuity in pursuit of some goal. Meritocracy suggests a system has been established to ensure there are rules for structuring achievement and ambition so that checks on ingenuity doesn’t lead to Saprano style conclusions. This episode will discuss our societies meritocracy and the curse brought about by the money it bequeaths the ultra wealthy.
