In a recent edition of the Australian program Accent of Women, host Jiselle Hanna very cautiously takes on the topic of apostasy - the act of changing or abandoning one's religion - with her guest Sadia Hameed. Apostasy is not about any one religion. Sadia is an ex-Muslim; Jiselle is an ex-Coptic Christian living in Australia. She sees the risk that criticizing excesses in Islam encourages racism against Muslims, yet finds the right to stand against religious authorities to be essential for both feminism and labour.
