This is the story of a research collaboration between the city of Chicago, community organizations, a utility, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to find out the best way to retrofit homes and lower energy bills for Chicago's low income residents.

I'm giving away the punchline, but the results convinced me that it's far better for the climate and justice to eliminate fossil fuel heating in lots of low income homes than to spend the same amount of money completely decarbonizing a lesser number.  We need to do it all eventually, but this is the way to make big change fast.
