A 2-Part interview with Mark Klempner author of The Heart Has Reasons: Holocaust Rescuers and Their Stories of Courage.
This book explores the stories of Dutch citizens who found the strength to resist Nazi Germany by hiding and helping Jews escape the Holocaust. Some of these Rescuers have never spoken of their experience before this book.
Mark Klempner is the son of Jews who barely escaped Poland. He is a graduate of Cornell and served as a Fullbright Fellow. His exploration of this topic comes from trying to understand his own history and a conviction to set aside the material obsessions of America.
From the deeply religious individuals to those who sought to simply "do the right thing", the harrowing details of playing cat-and-mouse with the SS, the fear mixed with pure dedication to goodness are priceless lessons for our modern world.
