There is no longer any doubt that the world is indeed warming at an unprecedented rate. Snow cover and ice have receded, global average sea levels have risen, and the impact of climate change is now visible in nature, plants and animals.

For a few days, in January of 2001, some media carried information about recent findings on global warming - then it all became queit again

Recent research, published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, shows that present levels of CO2, the major greenhouse gas, have not been seen on earth for the past 420,000 years, likely not during the past 20 million years

¾ of the CO2 in the atmosphere comes from fossil fuel burning, in power plants and automobiles. CO2 is also long lived. The report says that quote "several centuries after CO2 emissions occur, about a quarter of the increase in CO2 concentrations
