Portland Oregon has become a center for sustainability and it's spreading. Here it's real not just a promise by the political class. but why Portland?
Produced by Tom Allen
As the need to meet the challenge of global climate change becomes ever more pressing, we need models for a low carbon footprint. Portland, Oregon has become an incubator for ideas and techniques that enable a low-carbon lifestyle. Perhaps because it's located at the center of Ecotopia, perhaps because of it's governmental structure or perhaps by chance city government supports progressive, grassroots projects that alleviate a host of urban ills. Portland has gained status as a destination for people interested in learning the how-toos of cob building, permaculture, and community building among other things.
