The second installment of a conversation with Dr. Allen Straw of Virginia Cooperative Extension includes details on cover cropping and migrant labor, including the facts about the H-2A program, some of them quite surprising. H-2A is the program which allows agricultural employers who anticipate a shortage of domestic workers to bring non-immigrant foreign workers.
The musical interlude is Gillian Welch’s “One More Dollar” a story of a man who came to work the fields and never earned enough money to go back home.
