As I was saying, it's St Byron Werner's "WIDE ASS(ortment) Show"!
Tonight is an all-music episode of St Byron's Little Rock radio show RURAL WAR ROOM, and this one is a wild sonic jumble of audio styles and genres, from the Aquabats and J.C. Penney's promotional records to pseudo-spy exotica and Shiina Ringo's Japanopop weirdness, this show is a magic carpet ride (as opposed the the forty miles of rough road I usually dish out when it's my turn in the barrel). And this is only part ONE because RWR is a 2-hour block! Yar har.
Because St B is such coolcakes, I even went through this and cleaned up the pops from the vinyl. The Penney's promo and the whacked-out version of "Charade" were the worst offenders--I spent over two hours drawing out the pops on "Charade" until I began to hate it with a vengeance! What a cool song, but what a shitty copy of it, all crispy crackles, fractured peaks, and **BLIPTCHK!** pops in a signature that was hard to search through... And then, irony of ironies, I finally get through the cut, take out the last few pops as the song trails off, and there's Byron talking with his sidekick Donavan Suitt about how he got that crappy, crackly record from ME! OUCH. But then they started waxing my surfboard for a good forty seconds, and it made me twist having to hear it. It was too late to bail--I was so fucking sleepy my eyes were bleeding and my hand ached. I wanted to cut that bit out, but I didn't want to pull another forty seconds out of my butt to make it come up to an hour, so I just opened up the mike and recorded "Lalalalala" over that part so I could live with it.
But Byron got me good--that sonofabitch unwittingly totally blindsided me with that. I not only had to hear it, I had to look at the soundwaves. DAMN. Ninja master.
