Very soon after the events of 9/11 questions were raised about the fact that no planes were sent up to intercept the hijacked planes, and about the insider trading on airline stocks right before the 9/11 attack, the person of Mohammed Atta and the role of the Pakistani Intelligence service. Relatives of some of the victims of 9/11 and members of Congress demanded an independent inquiry. Vice President Cheney resistance raised more questions. The November 2002 appointment of Henry Kissinger to head the commission of inquiry is by foreign observers considered a scandal and rases even more questions: What did the Bush administration know about the preparation of the 9/11 attack and when did they know it.
Nafeez Mossadek Ahmed is the executive director of the British based Institute for Policy Development research.
