What do you call a show that NEVER WAS but HAD to BE? "Bob"'s SlackTime Funhouse #666, that's what you call it! It should have run back in 2006--but due to my lousy bookkeeping, by the time I balanced the "Bob" Book, we were on BSTF #670! Doc Ellis's inspired solution was to do it at my leisure and then run it anyway--as a RERUN (damn, that's thinking outside the BUTT!). So for six, six, SIX long years BSTF #666 has festered on the back burner, awaiting the right moment to slouch onto the air--and at last, its time has come. This show was trance-edited in a week and a half, and for complete immersion in the Dark Side of the Force, I subsisted on a diet of upside-down chocolate crosses left over from from last Easter. THIS IS A TRUE FACT.
And believe me, it HELPED--because this OMENous show is a literal BEAST! This one is jam-packed with what you've come to expect, PLUS-- crazy preachers, insane ideas, staggering cluelessness...there's even a version of "Highway to Hell" done by none other than TINY TIM! I'm sure Sam the Sham had no idea how well "Wooly Bully" would fit Jack Van Impe's ravings about the ten-headed Beast with seven horns. And wait'll you hear the two different crazy hopped-up contemporary takes on "Carmine Burana"--I guarantee that you WILL get "Orff" TWICE tonight! With a rhapsodic chamber-music version of Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" by the Vitamin String Quartet, plus THE MOST AMAZING *a capella* recitation of the "NotB" lyrics--from MEMORY, no less--by a freaking THREE-YEAR-OLD KID! The Cowsills are in there with "The Prophecy of Daniel and John the Divine (with Revelation imagery)," a trippy spin on batshit xtian delusions done in their pop- pablum style. And then, the whole extravaganza is capped off by the exquisite live number "Route 666" by the band God Is an Astronaut, a transcendent piece that resonates like Sonic Youth playing a SubGenius sweat lodge on Mars.
So, YEAH, we've got your number, you six fiends!
