Zakiyatou Oualett Halatin is an engineer and economist who has helped many people create and fund microenterprises as a path to peace through prosperity. Independence and self sufficiency can be found in having a small business. Recorded online, because she was barred from travel to the US where she was to be a guest speaker at the Women, War and Peace Conference at Virginia Commonwealth University, http://www.vcupeace.net/ October 2013
Recorded at Richmond Independent Radio, WRIR lp 97.3 FM, and produced at Epic Gardens. Thanks to Virginia Friends of Mali. Richmond Peace Education Center and all the volunteers at WRIR
Zakiyatou Oualett Halatine, engineer and economist who has helped many create and fund microenterprises as a way to peace and prosperity speaks with us over the internet from Mauritania where she lives as a refugee since much of her town, including her home and business were burned on February 1, 2012. The audio is inconsistent, but what she says is well worth listening closely. She tells us how to build a sustainable business, what it is like to be barred from returning to her homeland, and the difference between the way men and women conceive of starting a microenterprise.
Please tune in to LIGHTLY ON THE GROUND RADIO, AT NOON WEDNESDAYS ON RICHMOND INDEPENDENT RADIO, WRIR LP 97.3 FM AND WRIR.ORG.
