Puts the kids to sleep! Time to talk about the (1992) Abel Ferrara cult classic BAD LIEUTENANT How bad is he? If you havenât seen this, hereâs your premiseâ¦If police lieutenant Harvey Keitelâs life could get any more sordid, he could probably sell tickets. The least of his vices is gambling, which has gotten him in Dutch with the mob. He abuses his body with drugs and his soul with hookers. Heâs bad and knows heâs bad, he abuses the power of his position in every way he can. Shaking down criminals, stealing evidence and selling drug dealers their immunity by jacking their drugs! Yea, this dude is rank, and we havenât even talked about the rank scenes! But Keitels Lieutenant (we never actually get his name) reaches a wall when he is forced to investigate the sexual assault of a Nun. Her ability to forgive the perpetrators unleashes the ultimate identity crisis in a man whoâs identity is rooted in self destruction â probably not a good situation. This is a film that 22 years after itâs release is still talked about â Listen to see where the 5 of us place this one in the pantheon of early 90â²s classics.. That and our Top 3 âCrooked Copsâ!
