Please note that the Radio4All website will be moving over to new server hardware on July 26th starting at noon Pacific/3PM Eastern. The work should last two to three hours. During that time, the server will be offline.

Your support is essential if the service is to continue, there are bandwidth bills to pay every month and failing disk drives to replace. Radio Curious discusses 'carnism'-why people eat some animals and not others-with Melanie Joy, Ph.D. She is the author of âWhy We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism.â
Barry Vogel, Attorney and Counselor, is the Host and Producer of Radio Curious. Christina Aanestad is the Assistant Producer.
Carnism is the invisible belief system, or ideology, that conditions people to eat certain animals. Carnism is essentially the opposite of vegetarianism or veganism; âcarnâ means âfleshâ or âof the fleshâ and âismâ denotes a belief system. Most people view eating animals as a given, rather than a choice; in meat-eating cultures around the world people typically donât think about why they find the meat of some animals disgusting and the meat of other animals appetizing, or why they eat any animals at all.
The interview with Melanie Joy, Ph.D. was recorded in Ukiah, California on November 29, 2010.Â
Joy's website is www.carnism.com The book she recommends is, "Food Revolution: How your diet can save your life and our world," by John Robbins.
