France and Ban Ki Moon behind power grab in Ivory Coast
Interview
Bernard Desgagne, French language researcher and journalist.

Bernard Desgagne provides important background information about Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) political history and the "former" President Laurent Gbagbo who has been targeted by the Western countries and now faces charges at the infamous International Criminal Tribunal (ICC) --the place where all good and just African leaders who do not bow down to the Western powers are drug.

President Laurent Gbagbo, elected in October of 2000, was known as "the father of the multiparty-system in the Ivory Coast." Gbagbo's rival since 1992 was Alassanc Ouattara, former IMF man hired by 30 year no-opposition president Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who died in December of 1993. In 1992, Ouattara sabataged Gbagbo's peaceful protests challenging the one-party system and then blamed the destruction onto Gbagbo, who was jailed and given a mock trial.

Gbagbo wanted peace and reconciliation, so he pardoned a rebel general and allowed him to take part in political life and made other concessions that allowed Ouattara to run for president in the 2010 elections. Gbagbo won those elections.
