Three Generation of Jewish women against the occupation - A Recording
Montreal - On February 25th, 2004 at the Gelber Conference Center (in Jewish Library building) Three courageous Jewish women- ranging in ages from their 20's to their 70's - presented their own personal reflections of their involvement in highlighting the injustices against the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation.
Helga Mankowitz, a soft spoken retired grandmother, Fabienne Presntey, who has been active in middle-east issues for 20 years, and Shira Newman, a young film student and Concordia University opened up their hearts and shared their evolution from pro-zionist sympathizers who had zero or little sympathy for the Palestinian people to people who now are speaking out against what is taking place against the Palestinians in the name of the Jewish people.
All have been to Palestine and have interacted with the Palestinian people at various levels, Mankowitz and Newman as volunteers with the International Solidarity Movement, and Presntey, who lived in the region for a number of years and speaks fluent Arabic.
Several Jewish members of the audience also shared their reflections, including long time Jewish activist Jeanette Weinroth who gave a passionate account of how she evolved from an anti Palestinian zionist to someone who now speaks out against what Israel is doing to the Palestinian people.
Dr. Lillian Robinson, the Director of Concordia University's Simon de Beauvoir Institute, moderated the event and opened with her comments.
The event was hosted by the "Jewish Alliance Against The Occupation." They can be reached via e-mail at: Jewish_Alliance@hotmail.com
