A number of respected scientists (see www.peakoil.net for instance) are stating that global oil production will peak and begin its terminal decline much sooner than we would like to think. David Holmgren is one of the co-originators of the permaculture concept, and has been developing permaculture as a system of principles and practices suited to this era of 'energy descent'. In this interview he talks about: * Peak Oil, * the problems of energy intensive industrial agriculture, * the future of suburbia, * Howard Odum and his ideas regarding embodied energy and systems ecology, * the trends David sees emerging as we pass the oil peak, * and his hopes for the role permaculture might play to make the energy peak less of a catastrophe, and more of an opportunity.
