Recently returned from Venezuela, journalist and lawyer Dimitri Lascaris explains just how badly we have been misled about the crisis there. Maduro supporters did not burn aid, and that story was debunked more than a week ago. The government also did not suddenly close a border with Colombia, as was erroneously reported here in Canada. That border was closed well before the crisis.
Lascaris also discusses the deeply debilitating effects of U.S. sanctions on Venezuela, a country which depends on oil exports for survival. It appears as if the U.S. objective is to cause enormous suffering among the most vulnerable, placing pressure on Venezuela's institutions. U.S. offers of 'humanitarian aid' are very deceptive in this context.
Finally, Lascaris also investigates the maneuverings by the Lima Group to browbeat Latin American leaders into supporting Guaido.
