In an ambitious attempt to change school food policy by creating a supportive environment and building community around the issue, Berkshire Grown hosted a free and open to the public Farm to School informational conference Saturday November 18, 2006 at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School.
Berkshire Grown organized the event to inform and motivate the Berkshire Community about local farms and how parents, educators and food service directors can incorporate local food and farms into our children'â¢s lives.
Berkshire Grown was awarded a Massachusetts Department of Public Health grant to fund the conference, and this project takes the 25 year old organization in a new direction. The conference is the first step for Berkshire Grown in creating farm to school programming with the goal of the conference being to bring together parents, farmers, educators, school food personal, school food directors, and regional spokespeople from model farm to school programs so we may learn from successful experiences and be inspired to launch our own initiatives.
