This is a weekly 45-minute segment of news from Palestine, and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland.
Sherif Fam (associate producer), Steve Cornie (co-producer), and the staff of "Truth and Justice Radio," aired Sundays 6-10am on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, streaming at <wzbc.org>. The programs own website is <truthandjusticeradio.org>. It links to our playlists, which link in turn to archived audio.
On 1-25-02 a remarkable group of 52 soldiers and officers of the Israeli army reserves published a quarter-page letter which appeared in the Israeli daily newspaper Ha'aretz. In this letter, they called on their comrades-in-arms to join their act of refusal to serve in the occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza. In a manifesto published in a book in 2003 entitled "Breaking Ranks: Refusing to Serve in the West Bank and Gaza Strip," they further declared: "we shall not continue to fight beyond the 1967 borders in order to dominate, expel, starve, and humiliate an entire people."
The bravery of these young men and women, who were often courtmartialed and jailed for daring to speak out, is the stuff that makes Jews everywhere proud once again to be Jews. Today, we are privileged to interview just such a young man. Oded Na'aman is a 26 year-old former crew commander in the artillery corps of the Israeli Defense Forces who spent a year as a soldier and commander in checkpoints all over the West Bank, then became a member of "Breaking the Silence."
As always, Sherif opens the program with current news items ignored by the mainstream media, plus a list of ways to get involved with the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's immoral military occupation and colonization of their homeland.
