U.S. newspapers are not dying: they're being killed by Finance Capital. Though the metro dailies are moribund, the provincial dailies offer hope. Their national and international coverage is no better than the majors', but they at least give a good view of American weirdness. I read 3 reports from the weirdness capital of Connecticut, Enfield, & play a recording of Stephen Colbert's hilarious 2006 speech mocking his hosts--the Washington press corps and President (W) Bush.
Thanks to democracynow.org for the Colbert speech. New World Notes produced for WWUH-FM, Public Alternative Radio at the University of Hartford. Feedback to kdowst at hotmail dot com.
