The author of "Lies My Teacher Told Me" discusses the horrors of American History textbooks. They deny the realities of class conflict, present every public figure as a hero, suppress facts that might offend ANYONE, and try to turn students into flag-waving superpatriots. Loewen's examples are funny and damning. Then Carlin and Parenti take the argument further, showing how ill-educated citizens benefit their rulers.

Loewens talk was snipped from an interview on "History Counts" (www.mdrtalk.org). Thanks to producer Ken MacDermotRoe. Parentis remarks snipped from an installment of "TUC Radio." Thanks to producer Maria Gilardin. "New World Notes" is produced for WWUH-FM, "Public Alternative Radio," at the University of Hartford. Feedback to kdowst at hotmail dot com.
