Wisconsinâs monarch butterflies are headed south this month and will travel more than 1,700 miles to their winter home in the conifer forests in the mountains of central Mexico. Monarch numbers are declining due to loss of their wintering habitat in Mexico, extreme weather events and loss of milkweed plants, which their caterpillars need, due to changes in agricultural practices. You can help monarchs. Listen to our podcast to learn more.
