Interview
Karel van Wolferen, veteran Dutch journalist
 Jeff Blankfort  Contact Contributor
Feb. 22, 2017, 12:57 p.m.
Blankfort continues interview with Van Wolferen from 2/8/17 about his article, “Karl Rover's Prophecy,” in Unz Review in which he cites Rove's bragging to interviewer, Ron Suskind, of the Establishment's power to create “realities: that people will believe in.

Today, he examines US orchestrated coup in Ukraine on its third anniversary notes that the conditions in today's Ukraine provide nothing to celebrate. He sharply criticizes European leaders who sheepishly follow US lead on Ukraine and NATO—an ongoing menace--pointing out that a qualification of today's European leaders was that earlier in their career they allowed themselves to become dependents of the US in making their foreign policy.

Van Wolferen expresses dismay and surprise that it is liberals who have taken the lead in America's Russia bashing and dismay at what happened to the European Left after millions had turned out to protest the Iraq War in 2003.

He again questions those with the capability of doing so, to speak out regarding the most influential event of this millennium, the attack on the World Trade Center, and the unwillingness of the intelligentsia to question the government's untenable “official narrative” because of fear of job loss and/or reputation.

He cites Noam Chomsky, in particular, who is worshiped internationally by the Left
for his efforts to discourage inquiries into controversial topics, such as 9-11 and the JFK assassination, telling them where they can and cannot go. He points out, significantly, that when foreign intellectuals visit the US, with government approval, many are sent to visit Chomsky who is cited as an example of dissent being permitted in the US.

He also speaks of his frustration when his reporting on the war of the Khymer Rouge on the people of Cambodia was countered in the West by Chomsky's statements that the accusations against the regime of Pol Pot were US propaganda, a mistake for which Chomsky has never apologized.
