'Resistance' romance with military/state police needs to end

Black Agenda Report's Danny Haiphong has learned valuable lessons from Fred Jerome's book, "The Einstein File." The oft-neglected history of Einstein is that he was a committed socialist who took part in the American anti-lynching campaign. Naturally, the U.S. state, including J. Edgar Hoover's FBI, took a hostile approach to the legendary scientist.

Progressives used to understand that the FBI and intelligence agencies were hostile to left-wing activity. But, as Haiphong explains, traditional 'left liberals' have been corralled onto a fascist terrain. They now believe that the exceptional U.S. military, secret police, and intelligence agencies, the repressive arms of capitalism, are "good guys" against Trump. In this context, it becomes difficult to speak of a meaningful "left-wing" existing in the United States.

Much in the same way that many leftists, including Einstein, were labelled "dupes of Russia" by J. Edgar Hoover's FBI, today's establishment similarly labels Haiphong, Ajamu Baraka, and other leftists resisting their own empire as "Russian-influenced." We should be more like Einstein, and reject the politics of scare-mongering and bigotry. Only then can we form a 'resistance.'
