Rally Outside Chicago City Hall- Demanding the Right to be Heard

Four days before the scheduled rally and march on the DNC, 10 months after app[lying for the permits to do so; and a Federal law suit over the Coalition's Constitutional rights being infringed on by the city's intentional stalling,the Coalition the March on the DNC received, by order of the Federal Judge, the city's reply regarding permits to rally in Union Park from where the march would commence. Permission granted on condition that no sound system, stage, tents or portable toilets were allowed. The coalition is back in Federal court after being "blindsided by the Chicago's Law Department, with a decision by the judge now delayed till Friday, allowing the City to present its appeal for the emergency injunction filed by the Coalition. Speakers are representatives from a few of the groups in the coalition and Hatem Abudayyeh spokes person for the coalition; and Joe Iosbaker an organizer with the antiwar coalition, one of the groups that filed the permit to rally and march during the DNC.

Kate Magruder— "Celebrating Community"

Ukiah, California, a small vibrant community, approximately 100 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge is the home to the Ukiah Players Theater. An annual May fundraiser for the theater offers a tour of old and new homes on the west side of town, offered by the residents willing to share their history with community members. Kate Magruder, a founder of Ukiah Players Theater and considered by many to be the soul and life force of the UPT, successfully strives to search out and tell historical stories of the Ukiah, the ancestral home of the Pomo people who called the area Yokayo, meaning long narrow valley. In this program Kate Magruder explains the importance of place, knowing where we come from and our history, and in the benefits of telling communities’ stories. This interview was recorded May 11, 2008. The books Kate Magruder recommends are, “Our Land Ourselves, Readings on People and Place,” and “The Great Remembering: further Thoughts on Land, Soul, and Society,” both published by The Trust for Public Land.

Artificial Intelligence and the Resurgence of Nuclear Power and Uranium Mining

A new argument is emerging in favor of using nuclear to cover the increased power demands of Artificial Intelligence, and - almost as an afterthought - fuel the green transition to solar and wind. Legislation in Congress, such as the Advance Act, supported by the Biden administration, has already passed, with bi—partisan support, as recently as June 2024. It is written to fund all stages of the cycle - from uranium mining to accelerated building and licensing of new nuclear power plants. Strangely the mining industry has always prepared for the new market in uranium. And we all would have known had we attended their conferences. The program begins with an interview from the World's Premier Mineral Exploration & Mining Convention. They convened in March, 2024, in Toronto, Canada. Jeremy Szafron interviews Amir Adnani, President and CEO of Uranium Energy Corp. Linda Pentz Gunter comments on the passage of the Advance Act in June of 2024 with overwhelming bipartisan support and quickly signed by Joe Biden. Linda Pentz Gunter founded Beyond Nuclear in 2007. They support grassroots, national and international efforts to phase out nuclear power in favor of safer energy choices with which to address the climate crisis.
