Forced and sustained starvation is “shaving years off” of Palestinians’ lives, especially children, whose cognitive and growth development is dependent on good nutrition in their earliest years. Host Nora Barrows-Friedman speaks with Dr. Thaer Ahmad, a member of Healthcare Workers for Humanity and an emergency physician who has worked in Gaza for years. He explains how the starvation in Gaza is catastrophic. Nora and the Electronic Intifada’s executive director, Ali Abunimah, join Ahmed Alnaouq to talk about a remarkable new collection of poetry and essays called We Are Not Numbers. These are stories of life, loss, and defiance from a generation of Palestinians determined to be seen as more than statistics. And on the Electronic Intifada Newscast, Israel targets journalists and rescue workers in a double-tap strike on a Gaza hospital.
Produced by Pierre Loiselle, Nora Barrows-Friedman and Tamara Nassar.
